A: Opinions on the origin of Poker are, in fact, as varying as are the combinations of poker hands. Card games, popularly known as “NAS”, were originally played in Persia and, gradually, it spread to the Asian subcontinents like India and China. In the early 1800s, various forms of card games crossed the Atlantic, converging in Louisiana and gave birth to a more sophisticated American card game known as ‘Poker’. Outbreak of Civil War in America has immensely contributed in popularizing the game and introduced many variations like 'stud poker,' 'the draw,' and 'the straight’ to the game of poker.
