Question:    In Texas Holdem do you need only one card (not two) in the hand and four (and not three) in the hole to make a straight or a flush?

Answer:    In Texas Holdem you can use any combination of the two downcards in your hand and the five face-up community cards in the Board to make any poker hand, including a straight or flush or any other poker hand.

At showdown, each player will have two downcards in his/her hand, and five face-up community cards will be in the Board, comprising seven cards that are available for each player to choose from.

Each player will choose the best five-card combination of cards to play from the seven cards available.

A player can use both, one or none of the downcards in his/her hand when determining the best five-card poker hand to play in Texas Holdem.

If a player chooses to play the five community cards, he/she is said to be playing the board.
